Fairmont is the current terminus of the S-line Sugarhouse Streetcar that opened on December 8, 2013. Phase 2 of the Route will expand it farther east. For this reason the station is designed to be a second passing siding station. The stop has two side platforms with the usual silver bus shelter, next train countdown clock and TVM. These two tracks begin at bumper blocks at McClelland Street (where new buildings of an attempted TOD are being developed) and switch onto one track (the corridor is mostly single tracked) just beyond the platforms. Trains normally terminate at the north platform and the stop is located just north Sugarmont Drive, parallel to the line (that continues east the one block S 900 E where the Sugarmont Station is). The Greenway bikepath begins at the north platform runsalong the north side of the tracks for the main portion of the route.
